Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio Quadrifoglio has set a new production SUV lap record at the iconic Nürburgring circuit. On 29th September 2017, the Italian manufacturer announced that they achieved a lap-time of 7 minutes 51.7 seconds.
The Stelvio Quadrifoglio, which produces 510hp and 600Nm of torque, was unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show and has once again become a hot topic of conversation with this new lap time.
How was it able to set a new record?
Well, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio carries an all-aluminum, direct-injection 2.9-litre 24-valve Twin-Turbo intercooled V6 engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission with specific settings for shifting in just 150 milliseconds, and boasts 50/50 weight distribution.
The new record was set by Italian driver Fabio Francia, who also set the fastest Nürburgring track record for four-door saloons in the Giulia Quadrifoglio with a lap time of just 7 minutes and 32 seconds.
Alfa Romeo claims that “distinctive Italian style, advanced technology, innovative engines and excellent power-to-weight ratio” are what help the Stelvio Quadrifoglio to stand out and I have to say it’s hard to disagree.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio range is now available in UK dealerships and the range-topping Stelvio Quadrifoglio will join the lineup in the UK in 2018.
