Alfa Romeo is hoping for their new Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV to dominate the premium compact SUV segment, which means they’ll be taking on Audi’s Q5, Porsche’s Macan, and Jaguar’s F-Pace, to name but a few.

However, it does look as if Alfa Romeo is putting a strong horse into the race. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio – a high-end, performance version of the regular Stelvio – boasts advanced design, performance, and technology. This was proven earlier in the year when Alfa Romeo’s premium SUV produced a record-breaking Nürburgring lap time of 7 minutes 51.7 seconds.

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s 2.9-litre V6 Bi-Turbo petrol engine definitely helped it to achieve the impressive lap time. Its capable of delivering 510hp at 6,500rpm and generating a maximum torque of 600Nm from 2,500 to 5,000rpm. All that power coupled with a “specifically calibrated eight-speed automatic transmission, that shifts gear in just 150 milliseconds in Race mode.” allows the Stelvio Quadrifoglio to go from 0mph to 62mph in just 3.8 seconds.

As you would expect from a premium SUV, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio has all sorts of advanced systems, including active torque vectoring, chassis domain control, active suspension, an integrated brake system, and much more. Also, remember that a lot of this technology has been developed with “inputs and engineering know-how from Ferrari technologies.” which means that the car is capable of a lot more than just school runs and shopping trips.

Design-wise, I think the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is stunning, a perfect blend of sportiness, aggression, and luxury. Alfa Romeo says that the car was inspired by the idea of “necessary beauty”, the “perfect synergy of form and function” and I have to say I think they got very close to achieving this. There is only a handful of SUV’s I find attractive and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is definitely one of them.

Inside the car you will find no shortage of tech, starting with Alfa’s new 8.8-inch Alfa connect infotainment system which incorporates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 3D navigation. Also, Alfa Romeo has kept things high-end with the use of premium materials like carbon fibre, leather, and Alcantara throughout the interior.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio will arrive in the UK in summer 2018, with pricing and specification to be confirmed nearer the time.
