Whenever I catch wind of a story like this it always brings a smile to my face. They’ve done it again! McLaren has treated us car enthusiasts to another dose of highly exclusive eye candy. This time it’s a set of ten unique 570S coupés, and in case you were wondering, they have already been sold. Sorry about that.
Inspired by the 570S GT4 car these road legal racers look ready, and have been designed, to devour a race track. The order for these unique coupés was submitted by McLaren Newport Beach, the British car manufacturers largest US retailer. The work was carried out by McLaren Special Operations and the finished cars were delivered just a couple of days ago.
A few standout features of these cars include a pylon-mounted rear wing that delivers near to 100 kg of extra downforce, a carbon fibre roof snorkel for improved airflow and a titanium super sports exhaust. Also, the design of the bonnet has been tweaked to complement the aforementioned roof snorkel and rear wing.
If you saw one of these specimens drive past you on the street you would think you had seen a full-blown race car. McLaren Newport Beach Dealer Principal, Pietro Frigerio, explains that this was the aim of the project:
“The aim of this project was to have a serious track car that could still be driven on the road and this finished project screams ‘race car’ to the casual onlooker. To have the MSO X project go from renderings at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last July to the 10 magnificent supercars that we handed over to our excited clients today, is nothing short of amazing.”
I say the more road/race cars McLaren make, the better. I’m always happy to ogle at bespoke special ops supercars, and I’m sure you are too!
