If you happened to be at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from June 30th to July 2nd then you may have been lucky enough to get a glimpse of the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The 700 horsepower brute made its world premiere at Goodwood giving fans the chance to get up close and personal with the fastest and most powerful street-legal 911 model ever.
Let’s look at some of the figures. The two-seater car weighs in at 3,241 pounds (with a full tank of fuel), has a 3.8-litre twin turbo flat-six engine, gets from 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds and delivers 553 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with a titanium exhaust system, four-wheel steering system and a seven-speed double clutch Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. Oh, and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes are included as standard.
I really like the design of this new 911. It has all of the recognisable 911 Porsche characteristics but also gives you a raw race-inspired aggressive look. Talking of race-inspired, the car is likely to cost around £207,000 but if you have a spare £21,000 or so you can take the optional Weissach package. This will reduce the weight of the car by approximately 40 lbs. The package includes magnesium wheels, a carbon fibre roof and carbon fibre anti-roll bars.
As for the interior, it has a very sporty design which incorporates lots of Alcantara, leather and carbon fibre trim. We all love a bit of carbon fibre trim, don’t we? You’ll also get the GT2 RS Sports steering wheel with shift paddles included as standard and bucket seats with carbon fibre backrests. Tech-wise, the car comes with the Porsche Communication Management system which allows you to control all your audio and navigation etc.
This fast and powerful high-performance sportscar is expected to reach dealers by early 2018.
